Here at ButonBandits HQ a press released popped up in our inbox at 09:11 saying that EA were giving away free petrol at a petrol station in North London.
As it turns out the stunt to promote Mercenaries 2 actually started at 06:30 AM. By 11 AM the BBC were covering it with the headline “Chaos at £20,000 petrol giveaway“. Apparently by 11:30 AM the police had shut them down with £8,000 of petrol still to be given away. Good news for EA as they got nationwide mainstream media coverage out of it thanks to people complaining and saved £8,000 of their publicity budget in the process.
