Activision, one of the worlds biggest publishers have announced they will not be taking part in this years E3 event. Announcing the decision Activision said “After careful consideration, for business reasons Activision has decided not to participate in any official E3 activities. We wish the ESA best of luck with the show,”.
E3 was once the biggest Gaming event of the year, peaking in 2006 with the unveiling of the Wii in playable form for the first time. The following year, after publishers complained about the expense of attending, it was downscaled to an invite only event and held in a number of hotels and a small airport hanger in California. After much criticism, this years event has been moved back to the LA convention centre but is still set to be a downscaled invite only event. Previous E3’s used to allow publications of all size’s to attend as well as trade visitors.
Vivendi have since announced they will also not be in attendance. Is this the beginning of the end for what was once the industry’s show piece event of the year?
