Microsoft press conference summary
As is customary in E3 week, the Internet is being hit by a mountain of video games news. Here’s a round up of the news coming out of the Microsoft press conference:
- Fallout 3 to get substantial exclusive downloadable content on Xbox 360.
- Resident Evil 5 to feature online co-op. Game to be released on Friday 13th of March 2009 worldwide.
- Fable 2 to be released in October.
- Gears of War 2 to be released on November 7th worldwide.
- Completely new Xbox 360 dashboard interface unveiled.
- Mii style avatars to feature heavily in redesigned dashboard.
- New quiz show style channel to feature in the new dashboard with games such as 100/1. Games will feature your new avatar in game and real prizes can be won.
- New Scene It game subtitled box office smash will be first full price game to use the new avatars.
- Geometry wars 2 coming to Xbox Live Arcade in August. Video demo appeared to show 4 player online mode.
- Portal: Still alive to be released on Xbox Live arcade and will be an Xbox 360 exclusive. Release scheduled for Autumn.
- New South Park themed game coming to Xbox live in 2009.
- Galaga Legions coming in August to Xbox Live Arcade. First true sequel to Galaga and from the team that created Pacman CE.
- Partnership with Netflix in the USA to allow the watching of Netflix rented films online via Xbox 360 dashboard.
- Full Rock Band track listing revealed. Details here on Kotaku.
- Original Banjo-Kazooie to be released on Xbox Live Arcade on the release of Banzo-Kazooie:Nuts & Bolts.
- A new game from Codemasters & Zoe Mode called “your in the movies”. Was given a live demo on stage and appeared to be a eye toy style game but everything you do is recorded and then automatically edited and presented in a short film. In the demo actions were performed on screen such as dancing and running, this was then used to make a horror film.
- Lips, a Singstar style karaoke game to be released. Features microphones with flashing lights and motion sensors. Allows you to insert your own music into the game via Ipod and Zune players when attached.
- Rock Band 2 will be a timed exclusive to Xbox 360. To be released in September in the USA.
- Final Fantasy XIII to be released on Xbox 360. No longer a PlayStation exclusive.
