Free Radical have confirmed to Ripten.com that their forthcoming PlayStation 3 game Haze will be rendered in the resolution of 1024 x 576. When displayed in HD the game will upscale to 720p in a similar way a standard DVD would do on the console. Speaking to Ripten.com creative lead Derek Littlewood said “We prioritise a nice smooth frame rate over a different res. Personally, I don’t really buy the whole thing. People did the same with Call of Duty, they did the same with Halo, and they say with those games ‘It’s not running at true HD!’ And it’s like, I don’t care. If the game looks good and it runs smoothly, those are the important things to me”.
With so much made in the early days of the PlayStation 3 about it’s 1080p capabilities as opposed to the Xbox 360’s 720p, the fact that one of their flagship titles for the year renders significantly below 720p is a little embarrassing. Head over to Ritpen.com for the full story. A demo of Haze is available for download on PlayStation network. Haze is released on PlayStation 3 this Friday, 23rd of May.
