Larry Hyrb A.K.A Major Nelson has announced on his blog that Microsoft have today taken action against Xbox Live accounts that have been deemed to have artificially boosted their Gamerscore. Cheating has generally taken the form of using other peoples saves games downloaded off the internet to instantly unlock achievements. Offenders will have their Gamerscore reset to 0 and will be unable to re-attain any previously unlocked achievements. The player will also clearly be labelled as a cheater on both Xbox.com and the 360’s dashboard, an example of which is shown to the right. Larry goes on to say that “Xbox LIVE remains committed to keeping the service free of cheating in order to maintain a fair and level playing field for everyone”.
