Review Roundup: Bully: Scholarship Edition

Published by GiantHaystax at 12:48 pm under Reviews, Wii, Xbox 360

bully.jpgBefore we get onto the reviews, news is circulating the interweb of show stopping bugs in the 360 version of Bully: Scholarship Edition. The issue apparently only affects “older” 360 hardware although it’s not clear what is classed as “old”. Reports claim the game locks up randomly during play requiring a reboot, as well as audio glitches and a poor frame rate. Kotaku obtained a statement from Rockstar Games who are said to be “horrified”. Sam houser then said “You have our word that we never experienced any of this in QA - in any of our offices or at Microsoft. I am horrified, and we are now working around the clock to rectify this situation”. “We love our games and put a huge amount of energy and care into making them all that they can be. We would never shove anything out the door - we never have and never will. We apologise to everyone affected for the inconvenience.”. Click below to read more…..

The new version of the original PS2 game gets an average score of 82/100 based on 10 reviews on metacritic. The highest being 90% from gamespy and the lowest 67% from 1up who were very critical of the technical flaws found in the 360 version. Reviews suggest the Wii version looks identical to the old PS2 version. The Wii’s controls are said to have been adapted to the game well with the 360 version apparently having a little more polished visuals but again not significantly better than the ps2 version.

Assuming the bugs get fixed, with the game being sold online in the UK for £25 on most websites it definitely sounds like one to pick up but only if you haven’t already played the game through to completion on the PS2.

Gave it a go today. Got about 10% through. The intro to the game has a very poor frame rate with it stuttering and having bad tearing. But in the actual game itself the only thing ive had happen is the occasional audio glitch where a cut scene will end while a character is still speaking his last line of the scene.
